Alice Al Khatib and Bassel Al Saadi are the international guest artists at the Villa Romana in 2016.

Alice Al Khatib, born in 1982 in Damascus, studied sculpture at the Fine Arts College of the University of Damascus. Since 2007 she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Damascus and Beirut and now lives in Istanbul. She will live and work as guest artist in the Villa Romana from 1 April until 30 June.

Bassel Al Saadi, was born in 1971 in Damascus, studied there at the Institute for Applied Arts and has continued to live in the city. His has displayed his sculptures and collages in exhibitions in Syria, Jordan, France and the Netherlands. He will live and work in the Villa Romana from 1 August until 31 October.

The Villa Romana has invited international guest artists – from the Mediterranean region in particular – since 2007, thereby increasing the discussion of artistic practices and their contexts beyond the central European viewpoint. Guest artists in previous years have been:
