Monoprinting workshop with Hany Rashed
20 and 21 July 2009, from 5.00 pm on both days at Villa Romana
Hany Rashed, Monoprint, A4 (detail), 2009
Hany Rashed, an artist who was born in 1975 in Cairo and who is currently living and working as a guest artist at Villa Romana, invites interested parties to a workshop on the monoprinting technique.
Monoprinting is an imaging technique, which combines drawing, painting and printing. Unlike other printing methods, a monoprint matrix never generates two identical pictures. Monoprints are t he most painterly of printing methods and are still used today by well-known artists such as Georg Baselitz and Tracey Emin.
Hany Rashed teaches the monoprinting technique at the academy in Cairo and he himself studied it with his teacher, the famous Egyptian painter Mohamed Abla (who will also be in Florence at the end of July). He has taken part in a number of exhibitions with his works, including the Frieze Art Fair in London and the Thessaloniki Biennale as well as exhibitions at the Fundació Antoni Tąpies and in the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam.
There are no preconditions for participation in the workshop. Materials will be provided there. A contribution of 20 towards expenses is payable.
Advance registration is necessary. Please register by 10 July 2009 at: info@villaromana.org
