Filmprogramm

Von Dokumentation zu Rekonstruktion

RURAL DELIGHTS

Norman Richter, Vali Asr - Juli 2006, 2007

Programm

Elia, a Story of an Ostrich Chick
2003, 22.30 min / Guy Ben-Ner

A nature documentary of sorts, in which his two children migrate as flabby, flightless birds. Wild Boy investigates Mr. Ben-Ner's overlapping roles as father, pedagogue and director.

Vali Asr – July 2006
IR/D, 14 min, 2007 / Norman Richter

The film was shot in July 2006 in Tehran on the Vali Asr, the longest and oldest street of Tehran. It runs over 24 kilometres from the North to the South through the centre of the city and shows a picture of very different social classes and ideologies. Twelve faces of 12 persons are shown as well as objects they carried with them.

Summercamp
IS, 12 min, 2007 / Yael Bartana

Summer Camp shows the activities of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD); their actions consist, among others, of rebuilding Palestinian houses in the occupied territories. In the summer of 2006 Bartana filmed a group of ICAHD volunteers consisting of Palestinians, Israeli and various other nationalities, assisted by Palestinian construction workers, who were trying to rebuild a house at exactly the same location where it was demolished by the Israeli authorities in late 2005.

The Flag
TR, 8 min, 2007 / Koken Ergun

The Flag is the second part of Köken Ergun’s video series about the state-controlled national day ceremonies of the Turkish Republic. Shot during the April 23rd Children’s Day, which marks the establishment of the new Turkish Parliament, and the official demise of the Ottoman Empire back in 1920.

November
D2004, 25min / Hito Steyerl

In november Hito Steyerl examines the spectrum of interrelationships between territorial power politics (as practiced by Turkey in Kurdistan with the support of Germany) and individual forms of resistance. Her memories and accounts of Wolf’s life provoke the filmmaker to engage in a fundamental reflexion.

Pause

Metropolis, Report from China
42 min, 2007 / by Maya Schweizer & Clemens von Wedemeyer

Metropolis, report from China is a documentary essay about a research for an adaptation of the legendary 1927 feature film Metropolis, resulting from the artists’ trip to China in 2004. Von Wedemeyer and Schweizer’s film provides insight into growth of the Chinese mega-city, and creates a convergence of two myths – the modern totalitarianism depicted in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis and modern China, whose staggering growth has become the subject of heated debate in the West.

Everything/ Sychronization
RO/D/FI/FR, 24:30 min, 2007 / Laura Horelli

Everything / Synchronization refers to poems by Ana Blandiana and Marin Sorescu, from 1984 and 1982 respectively. Both poets were well-known nationally and internationally during the Communist period in Romania. Fleeing the notion of being clearly about something, the video suggests some ways to reading the present and past of Iaşi, a city in eastern Romania.

Passing Down (Frame 1)
10 min, 2007, Maya Schweizer

Back in  Berlin, I was trying to reconstruct, as a puzzle, with the help of the recordings from my grandmother, the part of her story during the second World War.
