The title of the evening OTHER SPACES / NEW LIVES is a combination of two quotations. New Lives is the name of the novel by Ingo Schulze, the Italian translation of which was published by Feltrinelli a few weeks ago. Other spaces (or Heterotopias) is a concept used by Michel Foucault to describe an unreal, virtual space by way of contrast to utopia. Heterotopias are effective places that are drawn into the organisation of society. What these other places have in common is that they challenge all other spaces by creating an illusion in which the other reality itself appears to be an illusion or by creating a more complete system than that of reality.
