Patrick Joel Tatcheda Yonkeu
New Forms of Spirituality

The interview with Patrick Joel Tatcheda Yonkeu was made during his stay at the Villa Romana in the course of the project SEEDS FOR FUTURE MEMORIES. Thirteen artists from Europe and Africa deal with the entanglements of both continents, and Senegal / Italy in particular, from different perspectives. The research project, which was conceived for a period of one year, will be accompanied on a blog. Results will be shown in exhibitions in Florence and Berlin in 2019.

Patrick Joel Tatcheda Yonkeu aka Omraam Tatcheda was born in Douala, Cameroon in 1985. After his scientific training at the Catholic school Saint-Jean Baptiste in Bangangtè, he finally decided to devote himself entirely to the arts. Thanks to a scholarship, he was able to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna for four years, his master's thesis of 2016 deals with Zen in art. In Bologna he holds i.a. intercultural painting workshops with schools and organizations from the Emilia Romagna region. In 2016, Tatcheda was an artist in residence at the Cultural Center Thread of the Josef and the Anni Albers Foundation in Sinthian, Senegal. His works have been presented at IV Biennale Internazionale delle Sculture di Salgemma, Sicily (2017) and Fondation Sindika Dokolo, Luanda, Angola (2017). For Black History Month Florence in Florence, he created a work at the pavilion of Villa Romana (2018). In 2018 his work will be shown in group exhibitions at La Galleria Nazionale, Rome and in the official program of the Dak'Art Biennial L´heure Rouge.
