MOHAMED KEITA

As part of the project SEEDS FOR FUTURE MEMORIES. Voicing the two ends of migration, a collaboration with the Thread Residency in Sinthian, Senegal, in 2018 thirteen artists will travel back and forth between Senegal and Italy to confront the realities at both ends of migration.

Mohamed Keita was born in Ivory Coast in 1993 and had to leave his country at the age of 14 in the middle of the civil war. He took a very long journey on his own, through Guinea, Mali, Algeria, the Sahara Desert, Libya and Malta to arrive in Italy in 2010, at the age of 17. Thanks to the attendance of the Civico Zero center for refugee minors in Rome he discovered an innate vocation to photography and started his artistic career. Today he lives and works in Rome. In 2017 he opened a photo lab for street children in Mali. Keita’s photographic work has been featured in several institutions in Rome, including Museo MACRO. In 2016 the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in New York displayed his work alongside photographs of Paolo Pellegrin.
