Janette Bisschops

Hunting for Ghosts

For the third iteration of the series of activations of our programme A House for Mending, Troubling,
Repairing, an intervention by Jeanette Bisschops.

At Villa Romana, Jeanette presents Hunting for Ghosts, a reading from an ongoing research on the
multiple roles and lives of performance. It aims to provoke an opening to questions about the meaning
of works that hinge on time and space. Can we access and invoke the remembering of a live event,
even if we were not physically present when it took place?

Jeanette Bisschops is an independent Dutch curator, art critic and writer residing between New York
and Amsterdam. Driven by an interest in expanding and challenging dominant narratives, her projects
research how artists' practices are challenging our social imagination. She was Curatorial Fellow at
the New Museum, New York between 2019 and 2022 and served as Curatorial Assistant for
Time-Based Media at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam between 2016-2019. She holds a Master’s in
Psychology from Maastricht University and a Master’s in Art History from the University of
Amsterdam.

Jeanette Bisschops performance lecture “Hunting for Ghosts” is realised with the contribution of the Fondazione CR Firenze.
