Nuno Aroso, is a percussionist dedicated to contemporary creation. He was born in Porto in 1978. His solo career has taken on a fundamental role in his artistic life. Strongly focused on the exploration of new techniques, renewed instrumental resources and the scenic aspects inherent in percussion performance, Nuno Aroso has actively collaborated with numerous composers front the most varied aesthetic fields and parts of the world, resulting in the growth of personal and idiosyncratic repertoire, contributing simultaneously to the development of percussion as an area of instrumental performance. Having completed a percussion course at The Professional Music School of Espinho, Nuno Aroso entered the Superior Music School of Porto. He completed his degree in 2001 with a score of 20/20 in the final recital. In 2003 he began his specialization at the Conservatoire National de Strasbourg, gaining a Soloist Diploma in Marimba and Vibraphone. Throughout his studies he attended various courses and master classes in percussion and contemporary music, seeking fundamental references in the contemporary music scene. In Paris, with Jean Pierre Drouet, he explored repertoire of musical theatre. In 2001, he was awarded with the Academic Merit Prize of the António de Almeida Foundation and in 2008 he was given a Creators Grant by The National Centre for Culture for the project Technicolor, a solo cd about the world of cinema. He has been a member of Drumming - Percussion Group, since 1999, Oficina Musical soloist and invited musician of the Remix Ensemble. With these groups or as a soloist, he premiered over 70 works and recorded a great deal of this repertoire. Particularly noteworthy are collaborations with the following companies: Groovescooter Records- Australia, Cavalli Records- Germany, Rattle-New Zealand, Anemos-Spain and the Portuguese companies; Numérica, Atelier de Composição and Clean Feed. He gives solo and chamber music performances alongside the most prominent artists, maestros, groups and composers of today, on the most important stages and festivals in Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Brazil, China and Thailand, South Africa. Particularly motivated by the enrichment and renewal of the concept of the concert as a whole experience, he frequently forms artistic relationships with other disciplines: Dance, Cinema, Theatre and Literature. The projects for the coming season include the launch numerous solo recordings, as well as world premieres of a great many composers of today, and appearances on the most important national and international stages. In parallel, he is an CITAR investigator and is working on his doctorate “The Narrative of Gesture- Contemporary Music for Percussion”. Nuno Aroso is frequently invited to teach masterclasses and seminars in summer percussion academies and international courses. He is percussion instructor at the Superior Music School of Porto.
Franceso Dillon graduated with the maximum of degrees at the Conservatorio L.Cherubini in Florence under the inspirational guidance of Andrea Nannoni. Other very influential teachers where David Geringas, Mario Brunello and Amedeo Baldovino and for the composition studies Salvatore Sciarrino. Beside his solo activity he’s very active as cellist of the Quartetto Prometeo (which tours regularly in Europe, Japan and South America). He regularly plays chamber music with partners such as I. Arditti, G. Carmignola, M. Campanella etc. His deep interest in contemporary music led him to collaborate closely and regularly with some of the most important composers of today such as Gavin Bryars, Ivan Fedele, Philip Glass etc. and with well renowned electronic musicians such as Matmos, Pansonic, Scanner, Alva Noto, Midaircondo. As a member of the internationally acclaimed group Alter Ego and for his solo projects he has performed in all the major contemporary music festivals. Dillon recorded for the labels Aulos, Dynamic, Ricordi, Stradivarius and Touch. Next will be a Schumann album on Brilliant label.
Emanuele Torquati is a notable performer of new music and enjoys a diverse and varied career as a pianist. He graduated with the maximum of degrees at the Conservatorio L.Cherubini in Florence and studied then with such luminaries as Alexander Lonquich, Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen and Nicholas Hodges. His activity has been supported by many international institutions. The recipient of several Italian and international awards, has performed extensively throughout Europe, United States and Canada. His concerts have been broadcasted in Europe for numerous National Radios and recently for the web TV Limenmusic. His passionate involvement in new music brough him to give several first performances of both solo and chamber works, written by Miroslav Srnka, James Newton, Brett Dean and Alessandro Solbiati. He has worked intensively with leading composers including Sylvano Bussotti, Wolfgang Rihm, Kaija Saariaho, Matthias Pintscher etc. and he has collaborated with artists such as Beat Furrer, Susanne Linke, Krater Ensemble and FontanaMIX etc. He has been invited to give Masterclasses within several Universities and Conservatories, such as IULM, Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, and Conservatory F. Bonporti Trento.
Luca Scarlini is an essayist, playwright, theatrical storyteller and translator who works often with singers and actors. He teaches at the Brera Academy and other Italian and foreign institutions and collaborates with several theatres and festivals in Italy and abroad. Scarlini also works for Italy’s Radio 3 and has written extensively on the relationship between music and society. He participates in various theatre programmes around Europe and edits columns for the Teatro Regio in Turin. His texts are translated into several languages and his published books include La musa inquietante (Cortina), Equivoci e miraggi (Rizzoli), D’Annunzio a Little Italy (Donzelli), and Lustrini per il regno dei cieli (Bollati Boringhieri). He also writes regularly for the magazines Alias (of Il Manifesto) and L’Indice dei Libri.
Martin Bauer, guitarist, composer, professor, is currently director of the Ceamc Fundation (Center of advances studies in contemporary music) and since 1997 director of the Ciclo de Conciertos de Música Contemporánea of the Teatro San Martin, which is considered one of the most important festivals for new music in Latin America. He was director of the Experimental Centre of the Colon Theatre for five years creating a space for new opera, music theatre and performance with enormous success having presented more than forty pieces - several of them by argentine young composers. Bauer composes chamber music, music for ballet, theatre and cinema. His music was presented in main halls in his country and abroad. He was awarded by the government with the Premio a la Excelencia en la Cultura and by the National Arts Fund for his string Quartet Criptal. His last production is orientated towards music theatre. He presented his pieces at The kitchen (New York), Dartington Summer Festival (UK), Podeville (Berlin), Singapure Arts Festival, Zurich Opera House, Edinburg Festival, Pfebelberg (Berlin), among others. As director he was responsible for the premiere in Buenos Aires of Infinito Nero and Vanitas by Sciarrino, Satie , Joyce, Duchamp an Alphabet, a radio piece by John Cage and his own work The Looser, based on the novel by Thomas Bernhard, which was recognized as the most important piece of the year by the music critics association in 2004. He is often invited to give lectures and seminars in his country and abroad about Samuel Beckett and the Music ( he was a guess professor at the UDK-Berlin with this topic), scenic music, argentine experimental music panorama, John Cage in Latinomerica, etc.
