Archive Fever and Found Footage in Arab Contemporary Art
photo: Essa Grayeb
In his lecture, the Palestinian artist Essa Grayeb will explain the role of archives and the work with found footage in contemporary Arab art and present his most recent video work The return of Osiris, 2019 (14 min), followed by a discussion with the audience.
Essa Grayeb (born 1984 in Lower Galilee) works with photography, video, text and installation. In his works he deals with topics such as reproduction and reenactment, absence and loss. They are often the result of investigations of his own narratives within collective history and memory. He is currently working on a commentary on the popular film industry. In 2018, he was involved in The Jerusalem show IX at Al Ma’mal Foundation. Essa Grayeb lives in Jerusalem and is a guest artist at Villa Romana in July and August 2019, thanks to a collaboration with the Palestinian Al Ma'mal Foundation.
