The sculptor, painter, and graphic artist Max Klinger was and continues to be an intense and unfathomable artistic personality. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death, Kunststiftung Sachsen-Anhalt initiated an art project in cooperation with Villa Romana in Florence, in which four contemporary artists – Mariechen Danz, Ilko Koestler, Yorgos Sapountzis, and Barbara Wege – received an 8-month fellowship to engage with Klinger's multifaceted creative work. The impulses from that engagement flowed into their own artistic work. The works that they created are now being exhibited in the late Romanesque /early Gothic Naumburg Cathedral.

Parallel to these new pieces, the nearby offices of Oberlandesgericht /Higher Regional Court of Sachsen-Anhalt – whose forecourt features Klinger's Abundantia fountain – will host the artist's last cycle of engravings. This is the first time visitors to Naumburg will be able to view all 46 engravings of the Tent-cycle from the collection of the Naumburg City Museum (a permanent loan from the charitable foundation Museumsverein Naumburg e.V.).

Simultaneously, visitors are invited to a third location, the Max-Klinger-House in Großjena. In the surroundings of Klinger's country house and showcased in the local permanent exhibition on the artist's life and work, Mariechen Danz's textile work is an homage to Klinger's partner of many years, Elsa Asenijeff.
