Pauline Curnier Jardin, Villa Romana Fellow 2021, at the LIAF-Lofoten International Art Festival, Venice

We congratulate Pauline Curnier Jardin on her upcoming project for the LIAF-Lofoten International Art Festival in Venice curated by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi.

Location: Casa di reclusione femminile (House of Imprisonment for Wome), Sestiere Giudecca, 712, 30133. Venezia, IT

Casa di Reclusione Femminile (Women's Prison) is a permanent communal installation by artist Pauline Curnier Jardin (born in Marseille, FR 1980) in collaboration with the inmates of the Casa di Reclusione Femminile della Giudecca, an Italian women's prison located in the former monastery of the Convertite where around 60 inmates now live. Curnier Jardin reimagines the prison parlour room that connects the women's prison to the outside world, transforming it into a ritualistic space for meaningful encounters. The artist and the group of inmates have reshaped the parlour of the penitentiary, using projections, furniture and wall paintings.
