Sebastiano De Gennaro

Biography

Sebastiano de Gennaro (1979): Multipercussionist, and noisemaker. He graduated in Percussion at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. He studied with the Dutch percussionists of the Royal Concertgebouw at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. After graduation he finally devoted himself to looking for an idiom and style that suited his character. Vibraphone, Marimba, Xylophone, old drums, toys for ages 0 to 12 months, recycled objects, battery-powered or electronic instruments, but very few digital, are his mediums. Contemporary music, experimental music but also punk are his references. His transversal journey has led him, over the years, to work with important Italian musicians and songwriters. He has recorded with the RAI Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale. He has been a member of the Naqqara Ensemble. In 2010, for the Rai, he took part in the international award Prix Italia, Music section. He has made two recording under his own name: Hippos Epos (2011, Parade), De Gennaro/DerMaurer 19'40'' on Cage (2013, Parade).
He works and has worked with Baustelle, Le Luci Della Centrale Elettrica, Pacifico, Der Maurer, Edda, and Calibro 35.
He has recorded for BMG Ricordi, Sony, Warner, Stradivarius, Ponderosa Music, Universal, Mescal, Barlumen records, and Trovarobato.
