On the occasion of Berlin Art Week, Villa Romana and the Georg Kolbe Museum (Berlin) are celebrating their anniversaries together. In a retrospective and outlook on their 120 and 75-year histories respectively, they reflect on their heritage and their present as artists‘ houses. Georg Kolbe was one of the first winners of the Villa Romana Prize in 1905. The Villa Romana still receives its prizewinners every year for a working stay of ten months in Italy. As part of the anniversary exhibition Tea and Dry Biscuits, talks will be held with former Villa Romana prizewinners and a sound installation will be presented. The installation, realized in collaboration with Radio Papesse (Florence) and with the support of Deutschlandfunk and ifa Galerie Berlin, weaves a quilt of sounds from the voices of former scholarship holders into a polyphonic “Corale” – a tribute to 120 years of Villa Romana and to a pluriphony of singular voices sounding together.
PROGRAMME from 3 p.m.: Artist talk in German with Ursula Sax and Farkhondeh Shahroudi. Moderation Elena Agudio (Villa Romana).
Launch of sound installation ‘Corale for 120 years of Villa Romana’
Artist talk in English with Flaka Haliti and Samuel Baah Kortey. Moderation by Mistura Allison (Villa Romana)
