Pınar Öğrenci is an artist, filmmaker, and lecturer. She has taught as a guest lecturer in the Master’s programs at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee (Spatial Strategies), the University of the Arts Bremen, and Leuphana University in Lüneburg. Her first documentary Gurbet is a home now, produced in Berlin, received the Special Jury Prize at the Documentarist Film Festival and was selected for the National Documentary Competition of the Istanbul Film Festival in 2021. Her second documentary Aşît was commissioned by Documenta Fifteen in 2022. She was nominated for the Böttcherstraße Art Prize in Bremen (2022) and received the Villa Romana Prize in 2023. Trained as an architect, Öğrenci creates poetic, experiential video works and installations that trace the “material culture” of forced displacement across geographies. Her practice unfolds through decolonial and feminist readings at the intersection of social, political, and anthropological research, following human stories shaped by war, state violence, collective movements, and infrastructural or urban transformations. She was the Villa Romana International Research Fellow in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut.
